1986 Gold Eagle Proof - $1300 - Deal or no deal?
 

Picked this up today at the coin shop for $1300. (includes 9.5% sales tax :thumpdown)

I checked these out on eBay before buying, and it seems a lot of the 1986W proofs were going for $1500+. But knowing nothing about numismatics, I'm wondering if I got a great deal or not. Blue Book has it at $975 and Red Book at $1100. Am I missing something here?

You did fine. These proofs were going for $1600 (at Apmex) about a month ago when spot was was around $938-940.

Be happy with your purchase. Proof AGE's will always bring a higher dividend.

Also, don't forget about cost averaging.

I would of paid $1300 without batting an eye.

The way things are going, I could turn it around on the same day for for at least $1450-1500.

But, it makes more sense to sit on them.

P.S. Sorry you have to pay taxes. The best part of PM's is no taxes (here anyway) and absolutely no paper trail.

P.P.S. Make every effort to get to know as many dealers in your area. I know at least five that I can depend on at any given time. It's a cash and carry business.

Mine does seem to have two minute scratches on it, though the seal doesn't seem to have been broken. But it's a brilliant coin, hopefully at least MS-65+.
